Students tuned into the 1st line of inquiry ‘Relationship between humans and animals’ through a brainstorming class activity. They gained knowledge on different type of animals namely herbivores and carnivores and omnivores, through interesting learning engagements and videos. Students were introduced to the ‘food chain’ wherein they understood about producers, consumers and decomposers and how the food chain works. Students participated in a class discussion ‘human dependence on animals’ and made a mind map on the same. Students learned about farm and wild animals and showed their understanding through a Venn diagram. Students were assessed on their understanding of 1st line of inquiry through a formative assessment. Students were tuned into the 2nd line of inquiry ‘Reasons threatening animal survival’ through class discussion and activities. During their English classes, students listened to the story ‘Dear children of the Earth’ followed by class discussion on loss of animal habitat and animal endangerment, in integration with the current unit of inquiry. Students were assessed on their reading skills through a reading assessment. They enhanced their thinking and writing skills through creative writing wherein they wrote a story about ‘what if an animal has to live in a different habitat’. Students honed their listening and social skills through a ‘dicta draw’ activity wherein students in a group were given different pictures to become the artist, depending on their time management skills. Students revised various concepts like nouns, verbs and adjectives. During their spell bee students were given meanings of the word, were expected to guess and write each word as per the cue. During their Math classes, students enhanced their understanding about the calendar and clock through various engaging activities. They were assessed for the same through a formative assessment. They were introduced to Pictographs through games and videos. For the Hindi lessons students viewed a video based on ‘ek’ aur ‘anek’(singular and plural).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-tTOJ1RvUY They also learnt about ‘लिंग’ (gender) and ‘वर्ग पहेली’(crossword). The Hindi ab-initio classes students were assessed on their knowledge of ‘vyanjan and maatra’ covered so far, through reading and writing engagements. During the PE classes students learned basic skills of gymnastic like front roll, back roll and beam balancing. They also played recreation games.
