Grade 1 students have settled into their new classes and spent the first few days getting to know one another and sharing their vacation stories. They also made Essential Agreements that govern their behaviour at school and revisited the Learner Profile Attributes. UOI : Trans disciplinary Theme: How we organize ourselves. Central Idea : Public places can serve our needs in an organised way. Lines of Inquiry : Public places serve our needs. : Challenges in Public places. : Our responsibilities towards Public places. Tuning into the new unit was done through a Cover puzzle strategy wherein students were given pictures in groups to explore and write their understanding on the ‘I see, I think and I wonder’ sheets given to them. This was followed by a classroom discussion. Students also learnt the difference between Public and Private Places through a sorting out engagement. They inquired into the need for Public places through a mind map. They also illustrated various Public places in their notebooks. Students explored the signs and symbols seen in public places through Flash cards. Student planned their own city and decided on all the important public places they would want in their city. This was followed by creating a model of the city using paper cut outs. The students have revisited alphabets and phonograms in the English classes through different classroom engagements. Tuning into Nouns was done through a nature walk, wherein students made a list of things seen around them. They then categorised them into four broad headings – persons, places, animals and things. This was followed by a classroom discussion on Nouns. In their Math classes students engaged themselves into various activities such as Number Bingo, Number recognition, Quantity association and many more interesting activities using manipulatives. Students then moved to the concept of Place value. Understanding the concept of place value was done through bundling and grouping, using golden bead material. Students used materials like golden beads, abacus and blocks to strengthen their understanding of place value. In their ICT classes students were introduced to PicCollage, an ipad app to create a digital collage . They created a collage of images that documented their learning process and led to a colourful stimulation for reflection on their favourite Olympians. In their Hindi classes students discussed essential agreements and learner profiles through the stories 'Imaandaar lakadhara' and 'karnee ka phal'. They enjoyed a video related to 'swachcha bharat abhiyaan' and drew pictures of objects seen in the video and wrote the first letter of the word also. They listened to the story 'Swachchta' and wrote words related to the video. Students revised 'swar' (vowels) through match the following.
