"Live as if you were to die tomorrow.
Learn as if you were to live forever." Gandhi
In continuation with the first line of inquiry ‘Types of landforms around Earth’, students discussed about the various landforms through the clay models made by them. Students labelled and presented their clay models during the formative assessment. In ICT, students used the audio visual app “Vittle” to create an animated illustration of different types of Landforms they have learnt in their UOI sessions. Students presented their knowledge and understanding of their favourite landform during the ‘Take and Talk’ and were assessed through a rubric. They were also assessed on their spellings through a spell bee and wrote sentences with spell bee words of their choice. In their Art classes, Students reflected upon their knowledge of landscapes by creating various cityscapes and seascapes using pencil colours and crayons. In their Math class, students revisited all the concepts done so far by solving the looping back sheets. In their Hindi classes, students cracked the words with ‘I’and ‘ee ki matraa’ from the poem ‘Paani barsaa chham chham’. They were introduced to the names of days of the week and months of the year in Hindi through videos. They were introduced to ‘oo’ and ‘aai ki matraa’ and wrote words for the same. Trans disciplinary Theme: Where we are in place and time Central Idea: Impact of human settlements on Earth’s physical geography Line of Inquiry:
Students tuned into the new unit through an interesting activity wherein they used the ‘cover puzzle’ strategy and were divided into groups, each group was given a picture of a landform. They explored the pictures in groups and wrote/illustrated their understanding using the “I see, I think and I wonder” strategy. To enhance their understanding, they were shown a visual presentation on different types of landforms. They gained knowledge about the flora and fauna found on various landforms through a classroom discussion. Students chose a landform and researched about it using I-Pads in pairs. They were engaged in making models of a landform chosen by them using clay dough. In their ICT classes students created illustrations of landforms in Microsoft Paint. In their Art classes students inquired about the different types of landscapes. They observed various visuals of the different landscapes and also inquired about a landscape artist named as ‘Claude Monet’. In their English classes, the students tuned into the concept of adjectives through various interesting learning engagements. There was a visual presentation on a very interesting story “Go away big green monster” and later the students illustrated/wrote their understanding of the narrated story in their process journals. To further enhance their understanding on adjectives, they were engaged in a classroom activity wherein they observed different types of objects in the class and wrote describing words (adjectives) along with creating simple sentences in their process journals. In another classroom activity students were blindfolded and they had to find and describe an object from the mystery bag. To enhance their communication and research skills, they were engaged in a matching and sorting activity, where they were divided into two groups. Students first sorted the nouns and adjectives and later matched the adjective with the noun. They were also assessed on their spellings through a spell bee and wrote sentences with spell bee words of their choice. Students were introduced to ordinal numbers through a class activity where they picked up chits with cardinal numbers (1-10) and lined them up as per the sequence. Later they were made aware that the numbers they have, are not just numbers but positions i.e. ordinal numbers - 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. They also wrote cardinal and ordinal numbers in their process journals. They also brainstormed and discussed places/events where ordinal numbers are used. They practised word problems in their process journals. A Math quiz was also conducted which covered all the concepts done so far. In their Hindi classes, students enjoyed listening to the story ‘Kisne khaaye Maalpue’. They were familiarized with ‘Ling badlo’ through a story and wrote the same in their process journals. They attempted their summative assessment and were introduced to ‘Sangya’ (nouns) through a story ‘Jab badal barsaa’. Students also gained knowledge on ‘oo’ ki matraa. In Hindi Ab-initio classes: Students revisited all the concepts done so far like - counting (1-10), names of vegetables, colours and names of body parts through different activities. In their Dance classes, students were engaged in the combination of basic hands and feet positions with different types of music. They also practised coordination with a statue.
In their P.E classes, the students practised running and jumping on the hurdles. In their Music classes, students practised various types of Christmas carols like Jingle bells (in English, Hindi and Spanish ) etc. |
