Trans disciplinary Theme: Who we are. Central Idea: Leading a balanced lifestyle can help us stay healthy Lines of Inquiry:
Provocation of the unit was done through an activity in which a market scene was created and the students selected their favourite food items, this was followed by a discussion on the food choices made by the students. Students tuned into the central idea through various interesting classroom engagements and expressed their views on healthy and junk food. The healthy habits were illustrated in their process journals and later the students discussed the five factors of health (recreation, hygiene, resting, healthy food, exercising). n their English classes the concept of punctuation was introduced through an interesting activity wherein the facilitator read a story without using punctuations and the students inquired into what was missing from the story. Thereafter they were briefed on the importance of punctuation and capitalization in both reading and writing. Introduction to articles was done with a ‘word sort’ activity where students worked in pairs and sorted the words into different categories. The difference between ‘a’ and ‘an’ was emphasized upon through an educational video. Students were assessed on their understanding of punctuation marks through a formative assessment. The concept of addition was reinforced through various engaging activities like the ice cream stick, number line and practise of addition sums in the process journals. Students used manipulatives and the number line to display their understanding of addition. The concept of number bonds was strengthened through an activity wherein the students investigated and found out all the numbers that add up to make 10. In their Hindi classes, students revised two and three letter words for ‘Ya’ and ‘Ra’ . They enjoyed the poem ‘Ahaa tamaatar bada mazedaar’. They were introduced to the names of few vegetables having ‘Aaa Ki Matra’. Students gained knowledge about the benefits of vegetables and illustrated pictures of the same. A summative assessment was also conducted this week . In Ab-initio classes, students were introduced to Vayanjan ‘na’ and ‘la’. They were made familiar with names of colours through a game called ‘tippy - tippy tap’ .They watched a video of the poem “laal tamatar”. In the ICT classes, students completed signage for public places with the help of text and shape tools in Microsoft Word.
In their Music classes, students learnt the “rainbow song” with actions and expressions. In their Dance classes, students are learning basics of free style dance form and different types of hand movements in jazz dance. In their Drama classes, students enjoyed listening to the story ‘Pied Piper from Hamlyn' and later took turns to narrate the story themselves along with actions. They were paired to perform mirror actions of the other person to enhance their inventiveness, miming and timing. In their Art classes, students are learning about the elements required to create a composition and are creating artwork using them. In their P.E. classes, while playing games in group, the students were sensitized about concepts likes fair play and co-operation with team mates.

In conjunction with the third line of inquiry – ‘our responsibilities towards public places’, students discussed the essential agreements which should be followed in various public places. Students drafted essential agreements in groups for different areas in the school like play area, corridors and lunch room. In order to make a real life connect the students went for a field trip to ‘Good Earth City Centre’ where they observed the characteristics of a public place, the signs and symbols seen in a public place and their responsibility for the same. They later wrote/ illustrated the field trip reflection in their process journals. Students performed role plays in groups to display their understanding of their responsibility towards public places. They were also assessed on their understanding of the unit through summative assessment and unit reflection. Students were introduced to common and proper nouns through an interesting classroom activity. Students read a story ‘A street, or a zoo’ and identified common and proper nouns in the story. A ‘Take and Talk’ was conducted and students confidently presented their knowledge and understanding of their favourite public place and were assessed through a rubric. They were also assessed on their spellings through a spell bee and wrote sentences with spell bee words of their choice. In their Math classes, students were assessed on their understanding of ascending and descending numbers. Students also gained knowledge on the concept of odd and even numbers through various engaging class activities and games. Students were also assessed on their understanding of the Math concepts done in the class through a summative assessment. In their Hindi classes, students enjoyed and learnt the poem ‘Seekh’. They relished various fun activities in the class like Tongue twisters, Poem recitation during the Hindi week . They revised two three and four letter words. In Ab-initio classes, students were introduced to vyanjan ‘ba’ and ‘sa’. They were made familiar with names of body parts and fruits in Hindi. In the ICT classes, students were introduced to Microsoft Word. They made signs and symbols found in public places by inserting different shapes and text boxes in MS Word and typing the text. In their Music classes, students were introduced to Xylophone and various percussion instruments like shakers and tambourine. They sang fun songs ‘If all the raindrops’ and ‘Rainbow rainbow’ to get a better knowledge of melody and improvisation in music. In their Dance classes, students were introduced to the basics of Jazz like isolations and feet positions. They enjoying doing Jazz dance and understood the importance of style in Jazz. In their Drama classes, students enjoyed listening to the story ‘Mr. Wiggle and Mr. Waggle’ and later took turns to narrate the story themselves along with actions. The art classes were integrated with current unit of inquiry wherein the students created different signage boards that they see in public places e.g: no parking, no honking, speed limit etc. They also made posters to spread awareness on how to take care of public places. In their P.E. classes, students enhanced the fundamental locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative skills like skipping, twisting and throwing. They also performed health related fitness and team sports like mini football and mini basketball.
In conjunction with the second line of inquiry an engaging ‘Poster making activity’ was conducted wherein students displayed their understanding on the topic - ‘Challenges faced in public places’. Later the students attempted a formative assessment and created a mind map on the challenges faced in public places. They tuned in to the third line of inquiry ‘our responsibilities towards public places’ through a visual presentation followed by writing a reflection in their process journals. To enhance their understanding of nouns the students played a game of person, place, animal and thing. They were assessed on their understanding of nouns through an interesting classroom activity. Students practiced ‘ur’ and ‘ear’ phonograms and their reading skills were further enhanced through a read aloud session. They were also assessed on their spellings through a spell bee. Reading challenge winners ... Spell bee winners.... In their Math classes, students practiced number comparison through an alligator story and classroom activity. They engaged themselves in practising number comparison through manipulatives. Students also gained knowledge on the concept of ordering numbers in ascending and descending order through various engaging class activities and games.
