TD Theme : How we express ourselves. Central Idea : Art communicates in a variety of ways. Lines of Inquiry : Different forms of art Expressions through art Interpretation of art Provocation of the unit was done in the Music class wherein students listened to different tunes depicting various emotions. Students listened to the tunes and tried to associate these tunes with feelings and emotions. This was then taken forward in the UOI classes where students through different musical tracks, dance videos and paintings understood that verbal communication is not the only way to communicate and that art, music, dance, drama are all ways to express ones feelings and emotions. This was followed by writing of the central Idea and the lines of Inquiry in the journals. Students also played dumb charades and enacted various situations. Through this activity students learnt about communicating through facial expressions and body language. Through a sorting activity, students differentiated and sorted out visual and performing arts. In the English classes students enhanced their reading and writing skills through various comprehension passages, picture compositions and visual imagery passages. They practiced sentence construction and attempted a listening activity. In the Math classes students continued practicing simple subtraction sums using the number line, manipulatives and number grid. They were introduced to the concept of 1 less than, 10 less than of a number. They also practiced subtraction number bonds and concluded the week with a Formative assessment on the concept of subtraction. In their Hindi lessons they enhanced their verbal skills through reciting a poem (mein ik chhoti kathputlee). They were introduced to the grammar concept like ‘Kriya’ (verbs) through place - mat activity. They revisited ‘anunasik’ (chaand bidu) and wrote words like खाऊँ,पीऊँ,पहनूँ etc. छात्रों ने अपनी T D Theme ‘HOW WE EXPRESS OURSELVES’ के अंतर्गत कठपुतली के नाच का आनंद लिया | In their ICT classes Students were introduced to a digital story telling app on the iPad. They also learnt how to research using an iPad, to download images from the internet and to use them with their digital story.
In dance classes students practiced a combination of steps with music in groups of four, also practicing a routine for UOI presentation using different type of props to create better effects. During music lessons, students learned to play the scale of 'Twinkle-twinkle' on the xylophone. They practiced the school anthem and revised old songs done during the music class. Students in their PE classes learned mini tennis movements like lifting the racquet and hands grip.
