"Live as if you were to die tomorrow.
Learn as if you were to live forever." Gandhi
Tuning into the third line of inquiry – How materials change, was done through an experiment wherein students observed Plaster of Paris (POP) in powdered form and how it changed its form upon mixing it with water, molding and drying it. They made interesting shapes using the powder. Students recorded their observations in the process journals. Using their research skills and using iPads students inquired on various topics like - how sand changes to glass, how paper is made from wood, how does cotton change to fabric? Students attempted a summative task using Kahoot that tested their knowledge on materials followed by a unit end refection. Prior knowledge assessment of the new unit on ‘Animals’ under the transdisciplinary theme “Sharing the planet” was done through brainstorming questions like -What do you call the place you live in? What are the essential things for their environment? Do you get that all in your homes? What do we call the place where animals live? How do you feel at home? How should an animal feel in its own habitat? .They further wrote their understanding in their process journals. For their English classes, students enhanced their communication and presentation skills through a ‘Take and Talk’ on materials. Students improved their thinking skills through a ‘follow directions activity’ wherein they had to read the directions and add the details to the map. Students also attempted a summative assessment .Having gained knowledge on how to create a book cover students used their creativity and thinking skills appropriately. Students improved their listening and social skills through a ‘dictadraw’ activity wherein students in a group were given different pictures to become the artist, depending on their time management skills. During their spell bee students were given meanings of the word to guess the word and write each as per the cue. For their Math classes, students tuned into the concept of calendar wherein their attention was brought to the calendar, to answer questions like-What was the day YESTERDAY? What is the day TODAY? What will be the day TOMORROW? They learned about the number of days in a week and in different months and number of months in a year along with their names. Students were introduced to vocabulary like day before, day after etc. Students were also introduced to clocks by used their thinking skills to answer brainstorming questions like ‘where do they use time in their life’, followed by writing about it in their process journals. They were further introduced to imitation clocks (manipulative).Students enhanced their understanding of o’clock and represented the given o’clock time on the clock. Students were introduced to vocabulary like half past, quarter past, quarter to etc. and practiced the same. During their Hindi lessons they viewed a video on animals and their homes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK5QYXqsPU0 in conjunction with their unit based on the T.D theme ‘Sharing the planet’. They also learnt about wild animals and domestic animals. They recited a poem ‘chal mere ghode chal chal chal’. During their Hindi ab-intio classes students did story sequencing and learnt vyanjan 'ga' . For their ICT classes, students were introduced to book creator app on the iPad and they explored various tools present in the app. During Art classes, students of grade 1 honed their thinking and creative skills by creating a free expression using colour pencils and crayons. Most of them wrote their reflections also. During their Music lessons students were asked to make instruments out of waste material which they displayed in the music room and then spoke about the function of their self made instruments. The students received prior knowledge on the endangered species and the how we can help with our small efforts to save animals. Later they were asked to research about the celebrities in the field of music who are helping towards this cause. They learnt and sang the song 'Summer holidays' by Cliff Richard as a group. They also revised some old songs which they had learnt earlier. During the PE classes students learned locomotor and non-locomotor movements like balancing and co-ordination and students played a football match.
