In conjunction with the second line of inquiry ‘Impact of human settlements on landforms’, under the current unit ‘landforms’, students watched various educational videos related to the topic. They illustrated and wrote their understanding of factors like deforestation and mining and how they impact the landforms. A formative assessment was conducted on the second line of inquiry wherein the students spoke about the impact of any one factor on the landform. Students further gained knowledge on the third line of inquiry ‘Responsibilities towards our planet’. They discussed what they can do on their part to protect the planet. They learned about the 4R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle, recreate) and used their creativity to make a poster on the same. In their Art classes, students expressed their understanding of a landscape through their artwork. In their English class, students revisited all the concepts done so far by solving the looping back sheets. Students enhanced their writing skills by writing about their winter vacation. They further honed their listening skills through a listening activity. They were introduced to pronouns through various engaging class activities. They were also assessed on their spellings through a spell bee and wrote sentences with spell bee words of their choice. In their Math classes, students revisited all the concepts done so far by solving the looping back sheets. Students were introduced to the concept of subtraction through manipulatives and a bowling game. They understood the various terms related to subtraction and solved simple subtraction sums using the number line and manipulatives. In ICT, students were introduced to a new iPad app 'Pages', where they are learning to create a digital portfolio with their selfie, texts and emoticons. In their Hindi classes, students shared the memorable moments of their vacation. They enjoyed the video ‘Kathputli ka naach’ and discussed how it works. They recited poem ‘Naavchali,naavchali’ and revised the ‘maatra’ learnt in the class. In the Ab-initio classes, students shared their favourite vacation experience. They revisited the concepts done so far through looping back sheet. In their Music classes, students practiced various techniques of vocal warm ups in western music. They learned the ‘Kookaburra song’ and a motivational song- ‘Umeedon waali dhoop’. In their P.E. classes, students enhanced their motor skills through athletics like jumping, single leg hopping and double leg hopping.

In continuation with the first line of inquiry ‘Types of landforms around Earth’, students discussed about the various landforms through the clay models made by them. Students labelled and presented their clay models during the formative assessment. In ICT, students used the audio visual app “Vittle” to create an animated illustration of different types of Landforms they have learnt in their UOI sessions. Students presented their knowledge and understanding of their favourite landform during the ‘Take and Talk’ and were assessed through a rubric. They were also assessed on their spellings through a spell bee and wrote sentences with spell bee words of their choice. In their Art classes, Students reflected upon their knowledge of landscapes by creating various cityscapes and seascapes using pencil colours and crayons. In their Math class, students revisited all the concepts done so far by solving the looping back sheets. In their Hindi classes, students cracked the words with ‘I’and ‘ee ki matraa’ from the poem ‘Paani barsaa chham chham’. They were introduced to the names of days of the week and months of the year in Hindi through videos. They were introduced to ‘oo’ and ‘aai ki matraa’ and wrote words for the same. They were familiarized with Sarvnaam (pronoun) through a story and video.
In the Ab-initio classes, students were introduced to vyanjan ‘ha’. They revisited the vyanjan done so far. In their Music classes, students learned Christmas carols and enjoyed performing them individually. They sang Christmas carols like ‘Jingle bells’, ‘Rudolf the red nosed reindeer’, ‘Feliz nevidad’ and’ Santa Claus is coming to town’. In their Dance classes, students improved coordination by playing dancing statue. For their dance routine, they did a combination of basic hand and feet positions with different types of music. In their P.E. classes, students learned various movements of the body through warming up and cooling down excercises. Students tuned into the new unit through an interesting activity wherein they used the ‘cover puzzle’ strategy and were divided into groups, each group was given a picture of a landform. They explored the pictures in groups and wrote/illustrated their understanding using the “I see, I think and I wonder” strategy. To enhance their understanding, they were shown a visual presentation on different types of landforms. They gained knowledge about the flora and fauna found on various landforms through a classroom discussion. Students chose a landform and researched about it using I-Pads in pairs. They were engaged in making models of a landform chosen by them using clay dough. In their ICT classes students created illustrations of landforms in Microsoft Paint. In their Art classes students inquired about the different types of landscapes. They observed various visuals of the different landscapes and also inquired about a landscape artist named as ‘Claude Monet’. In their English classes, the students tuned into the concept of adjectives through various interesting learning engagements. There was a visual presentation on a very interesting story “Go away big green monster” and later the students illustrated/wrote their understanding of the narrated story in their process journals. To further enhance their understanding on adjectives, they were engaged in a classroom activity wherein they observed different types of objects in the class and wrote describing words (adjectives) along with creating simple sentences in their process journals. In another classroom activity students were blindfolded and they had to find and describe an object from the mystery bag. To enhance their communication and research skills, they were engaged in a matching and sorting activity, where they were divided into two groups. Students first sorted the nouns and adjectives and later matched the adjective with the noun. They were also assessed on their spellings through a spell bee and wrote sentences with spell bee words of their choice. Students were introduced to ordinal numbers through a class activity where they picked up chits with cardinal numbers (1-10) and lined them up as per the sequence. Later they were made aware that the numbers they have, are not just numbers but positions i.e. ordinal numbers - 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. They also wrote cardinal and ordinal numbers in their process journals. They also brainstormed and discussed places/events where ordinal numbers are used. They practised word problems in their process journals. A Math quiz was also conducted which covered all the concepts done so far. In their Hindi classes, students enjoyed listening to the story ‘Kisne khaaye Maalpue’. They were familiarized with ‘Ling badlo’ through a story and wrote the same in their process journals. They attempted their summative assessment and were introduced to ‘Sangya’ (nouns) through a story ‘Jab badal barsaa’. Students also gained knowledge on ‘oo’ ki matraa. In Hindi Ab-initio classes: Students revisited all the concepts done so far like - counting (1-10), names of vegetables, colours and names of body parts through different activities. In their Dance classes, students were engaged in the combination of basic hands and feet positions with different types of music. They also practised coordination with a statue.
In their P.E classes, the students practised running and jumping on the hurdles. In their Music classes, students practised various types of Christmas carols like Jingle bells (in English, Hindi and Spanish ) etc. While pursuing the second line of inquiry ‘Food and its impact on our body’, an interesting activity of reading food labels was conducted. Students were given empty packs of food items like cornflakes, chocolate, chips etc. They gained knowledge about the terms like ingredients and nutritional value, calorie count, protein, fat etc. Students enthusiastically inquired about the significance of the red and green dot, manufacturing and expiry date of different food products. Students later wrote the ingredients and the nutritional value of a food product in their journals. Students enhanced their thinking skills by analysing whether the food item is healthy or junk and gave reasons to support their answer. Students also inquired about the health benefits of plants like aloe vera and tulsi through a nature walk. Students tuned into the third line of inquiry ‘Reflecting on choices and their consequences’ through an interesting activity where they were given different scenarios and they reflected on the possible reasons which lead to the health related problems. In order to enhance their understanding of healthy eating habits and having a balanced diet, students attended a guest lecture by Ms. Navshikha Bhandari and later wrote their reflection in the process journals. Students were assessed on their understanding of a balanced diet wherein they planned a meal by incorporating all the food groups in adequate quantities through writing/ illustrations. Students further enhanced their social and thinking skills through role plays where they were given different scenarios related to eating habits. Students enhanced their thinking skills through discussions on their favourite food and illustrated it through a mind map. In their English classes, the concept of nouns was revisited through an interesting game where students used letter cards from a-z and flash cards of name, place, animals and things. They were also asked to sort the letters as per proper and common nouns. Their writing skills were enhanced through a sentence making activity wherein they created sentences using common and proper nouns along with appropriate punctuation marks. Students practiced the ‘magic e’ (u-e) words and created sentences using them. Students were assessed on their spellings through a spell bee. In their Math classes, students strengthened their understanding of measurement by choosing the appropriate unit of measurement for the situations given in a classroom discussion. Students further explored different tools of measurement like scale, measuring tape and weighing machine to measure different class objects and later recorded their findings in the process journals. Students were assessed on their understanding of measurement through a formative assessment wherein they chose objects each for length, breadth, height, weight and capacity by mentioning its attributes and the unit of measurement. In their Hindi classes students were introduced to words with ‘badi ee ki maatra’. They watched a video and identified those words and later attempted forming simple sentences. They enjoyed the story ‘Kisne khaaye maal pue’ and participated in a discussion followed by written work on ‘Ling badlo’. In their Hindi ab-initio classes, students were introduced to ‘aa’ kee maatra and wrote ‘aa’ maatra words in their journals. They enhanced their reading and writing skills through different activities done in class. In their Art classes, students finished their fruit collage using the technique of tearing and pasting of coloured paper.
In their ICT classes, students learnt to create graphic images in Microsoft Paint to record temperature for days using tools like Pencil, Shape and fill with colour. In their Dance classes, students did combinations of basic hand and feet positions with different types of music with their dance routine. In their Music classes, students practiced to play the 2/4 and 2/6 beat on the congo. They played and presented the same individually. They revised the scales on the xylophone and started learning the Christmas carols. In their Drama classes, students were making mechanical as well as natural scenery like car, bike, tree etc. In their P.E classes practiced various types of exercises (stretching, flexibility). In conjunction with the 2nd line of inquiry ‘Food and its impact on our body’ students inquired about the food pyramid through educational videos and engaging class activities. Students learnt about the various food groups and importance of each group for a healthy and balanced diet. Students honed their research skills by exploring the benefits of different food items on the I-pads. A guest lecture on healthy eating habits and a balanced diet was conducted by Dr. Indu Gupta, students later wrote their reflection in their process journals. An assessment was conducted wherein students reflected upon their understanding of a balanced by planning a meal and incorporating all the food groups in adequate quantities. In their Hindi classes students watched a video based on a story ‘Badhne ka rahasya’ to understand the importance of food in our life and wrote ‘milte julte shabd’. Integrating the math concept of measurement with the unit, students reflected on the food pyramid and understood how much quantity of various food groups/food items are required for our body in order to stay healthy. Students enhanced their listening and comprehension skills by listening to a story and answering a task sheet based on the same. Students were assessed on their knowledge of nouns, punctuation and comprehension skills through a summative assessment. Students enhanced their reading and writing skills through read aloud sessions and attempting picture comprehension activities respectively. A take and talk was conducted and students spoke confidently about healthy food items. The ‘magic e’ words were practiced and a spell bee was conducted to assess the students on their spellings. While pursuing the concept of measurement, students were introduced to the standard units of measurement. They gained knowledge on concepts like length, height, width and measured different objects using a ruler. Students gained knowledge on the different units of measurements to measure length (millimeter, centimeter, meter, kilometer ), weight (gram, kilogram) and capacity (milliliter, liter). They explored and understood how to use the different tools of measurement like measuring tape, weighing scale and measuring cup. Students were assessed on the concept of addition through a formative assessment. Students practiced addition number bonds to 20 through number cards. In their Hindi classes, students read and wrote sentences using ‘aa’ ki matra. They were also introduced to ‘i’ ki matra and revisited swar. In their Hindi ab-initio classes, students revisited the vyanjan done previously. They were introduced to names of days of the week in Hindi. In their Art classes, students learnt how to draw fruits proportionate to the size of the given sheet. Now they are creating a still life collage by tearing and pasting coloured paper.
In their ICT classes, students continued to work in Microsoft Paint, exploring shape and fill colour tools to create illustrations. In their Dance classes, students did tapping, clapping and combinations to improve musicality and also a dance routine. In their Music classes, students practiced the western scales "DO RE MI FA SO LA TI DO" in humming and various other techniques. This exercise is to help them to learn about voice modulation. They were also made to sing the song " DO A DEER". In their P.E. classes, students learned manipulative skills like obstacle course. In this activity there were different stations (hurdles, zigzag moving, running). While pursuing the 1st line of inquiry – ‘daily habits and routines’, Inquirers of Grade 1 interviewed members of the school community to find out the extent to which healthy habits are being followed and which factor of health needs to be taken care of. They analyzed the collective responses of interview with the facilitator to find out about the various factors impacting health. In their formative assessment, students were given some scenarios and pictures related to various health factors and they had to illustrate and identify the ones which were ‘healthy’. Students were introduced to the food pyramid through a visual presentation to enhance their understanding of various food groups and the food items they are comprised of. Students enhanced their thinking and reading skills, through a picture sequencing story of ‘Baker Baking Cookies’. They enhanced their comprehension skills through a story ‘Go Away Floppy’ followed by a task sheet based on the same. Students practiced magic ‘e’ words to enhance their vocabulary through a comprehension passage. They also wrote similar words in their journals. They were assessed on spellings through a spell bee. The concept of ‘Measurement’ was introduced to the students through a classroom activity where they measured the distance from their desk to different places in the classroom using their feet this was followed by a classroom discussion to understand if the distance measured differs according to the size of their feet . The concept of standard and non-standard units of measurement was introduced through an interesting activity wherein the students were provided with different objects from the classroom to measure using their hands and a ruler. Students also watched an online story ‘How big is a foot’ and the terms length, hand span and foot span were introduced to them. They practiced addition through i-Pad games. In their Hindi classes, children enjoyed the poem ‘Aloo Bola Mujko Kha Lo’. They discussed the benefits of fruits and vegetables. Students shared the names of their favorite fruits and vegetables. An extempore activity was performed in which they picked one fruit or vegetable from the basket and spoke about it on their own. In Hindi Ab-initio classes, students were introduced to vyanjan ‘gha’, word ‘ghar’ and pictures associated with that vyanjan. They were familiarized with counting, vegetables, colours and names of body parts. They were also shown visual presentation on poem “laal tamatar bada mazedar’ in Hindi. In their ICT classes, students were given an introductory session on Microsoft Paintbrush to create illustrations. They learnt to type their names using text tool option which helped them to identify keys on the keyboard and also enhanced their mouse movement skills.
In their Drama classes, students were engaged in creative exercise where they created beautiful sculptures on their partner. One of the partner played sculptor and the other played clay and vice versa. In their Music classes, students learned a motivational song "a gift to you" and learned to sing the same on a karaoke track. They were also assessed for their singing. In their PE classes, students enhanced fundamental locomotor skills like dribbling, twisting and throwing. They performed health related fitness and played basketball. They also gave a formative assessment on basketball. In their Art classes, students inquired about the artist Paul Cezanne and observed his artwork. They also inquired into still life compositions and observed them. Students prepared a KWL Chart on Collage Making. In their Dance classes, students enjoyed practicing Jazz form of dance and understood the importance of style in Jazz. They were assessed on isolations and balancing to improve the clarity of steps. Provocation of the unit was done through an activity in which a market scene was created and the students selected their favourite food items, this was followed by a discussion on the food choices made by the students. Students tuned into the central idea through various interesting classroom engagements and expressed their views on healthy and junk food. The healthy habits were illustrated in their process journals and later the students discussed the five factors of health (recreation, hygiene, resting, healthy food, exercising). n their English classes the concept of punctuation was introduced through an interesting activity wherein the facilitator read a story without using punctuations and the students inquired into what was missing from the story. Thereafter they were briefed on the importance of punctuation and capitalization in both reading and writing. Introduction to articles was done with a ‘word sort’ activity where students worked in pairs and sorted the words into different categories. The difference between ‘a’ and ‘an’ was emphasized upon through an educational video. Students were assessed on their understanding of punctuation marks through a formative assessment. The concept of addition was reinforced through various engaging activities like the ice cream stick, number line and practise of addition sums in the process journals. Students used manipulatives and the number line to display their understanding of addition. The concept of number bonds was strengthened through an activity wherein the students investigated and found out all the numbers that add up to make 10. In their Hindi classes, students revised two and three letter words for ‘Ya’ and ‘Ra’ . They enjoyed the poem ‘Ahaa tamaatar bada mazedaar’. They were introduced to the names of few vegetables having ‘Aaa Ki Matra’. Students gained knowledge about the benefits of vegetables and illustrated pictures of the same. A summative assessment was also conducted this week . In Ab-initio classes, students were introduced to Vayanjan ‘na’ and ‘la’. They were made familiar with names of colours through a game called ‘tippy - tippy tap’ .They watched a video of the poem “laal tamatar”. In the ICT classes, students completed signage for public places with the help of text and shape tools in Microsoft Word.
In their Music classes, students learnt the “rainbow song” with actions and expressions. In their Dance classes, students are learning basics of free style dance form and different types of hand movements in jazz dance. In their Drama classes, students enjoyed listening to the story ‘Pied Piper from Hamlyn' and later took turns to narrate the story themselves along with actions. They were paired to perform mirror actions of the other person to enhance their inventiveness, miming and timing. In their Art classes, students are learning about the elements required to create a composition and are creating artwork using them. In their P.E. classes, while playing games in group, the students were sensitized about concepts likes fair play and co-operation with team mates. In conjunction with the third line of inquiry – ‘our responsibilities towards public places’, students discussed the essential agreements which should be followed in various public places. Students drafted essential agreements in groups for different areas in the school like play area, corridors and lunch room. In order to make a real life connect the students went for a field trip to ‘Good Earth City Centre’ where they observed the characteristics of a public place, the signs and symbols seen in a public place and their responsibility for the same. They later wrote/ illustrated the field trip reflection in their process journals. Students performed role plays in groups to display their understanding of their responsibility towards public places. They were also assessed on their understanding of the unit through summative assessment and unit reflection. Students were introduced to common and proper nouns through an interesting classroom activity. Students read a story ‘A street, or a zoo’ and identified common and proper nouns in the story. A ‘Take and Talk’ was conducted and students confidently presented their knowledge and understanding of their favourite public place and were assessed through a rubric. They were also assessed on their spellings through a spell bee and wrote sentences with spell bee words of their choice. In their Math classes, students were assessed on their understanding of ascending and descending numbers. Students also gained knowledge on the concept of odd and even numbers through various engaging class activities and games. Students were also assessed on their understanding of the Math concepts done in the class through a summative assessment. In their Hindi classes, students enjoyed and learnt the poem ‘Seekh’. They relished various fun activities in the class like Tongue twisters, Poem recitation during the Hindi week . They revised two three and four letter words. In Ab-initio classes, students were introduced to vyanjan ‘ba’ and ‘sa’. They were made familiar with names of body parts and fruits in Hindi. In the ICT classes, students were introduced to Microsoft Word. They made signs and symbols found in public places by inserting different shapes and text boxes in MS Word and typing the text. In their Music classes, students were introduced to Xylophone and various percussion instruments like shakers and tambourine. They sang fun songs ‘If all the raindrops’ and ‘Rainbow rainbow’ to get a better knowledge of melody and improvisation in music. In their Dance classes, students were introduced to the basics of Jazz like isolations and feet positions. They enjoying doing Jazz dance and understood the importance of style in Jazz. In their Drama classes, students enjoyed listening to the story ‘Mr. Wiggle and Mr. Waggle’ and later took turns to narrate the story themselves along with actions. The art classes were integrated with current unit of inquiry wherein the students created different signage boards that they see in public places e.g: no parking, no honking, speed limit etc. They also made posters to spread awareness on how to take care of public places. In their P.E. classes, students enhanced the fundamental locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative skills like skipping, twisting and throwing. They also performed health related fitness and team sports like mini football and mini basketball.
In conjunction with the second line of inquiry an engaging ‘Poster making activity’ was conducted wherein students displayed their understanding on the topic - ‘Challenges faced in public places’. Later the students attempted a formative assessment and created a mind map on the challenges faced in public places. They tuned in to the third line of inquiry ‘our responsibilities towards public places’ through a visual presentation followed by writing a reflection in their process journals. To enhance their understanding of nouns the students played a game of person, place, animal and thing. They were assessed on their understanding of nouns through an interesting classroom activity. Students practiced ‘ur’ and ‘ear’ phonograms and their reading skills were further enhanced through a read aloud session. They were also assessed on their spellings through a spell bee. Reading challenge winners ... Spell bee winners.... In their Math classes, students practiced number comparison through an alligator story and classroom activity. They engaged themselves in practising number comparison through manipulatives. Students also gained knowledge on the concept of ordering numbers in ascending and descending order through various engaging class activities and games.
Grade 1 students have settled into their new classes and spent the first few days getting to know one another and sharing their vacation stories. They also made Essential Agreements that govern their behaviour at school and revisited the Learner Profile Attributes. UOI : Trans disciplinary Theme: How we organize ourselves. Tuning into the new unit was done through a Cover puzzle strategy wherein students were given pictures in groups to explore and write their understanding on the ‘I see, I think and I wonder’ sheets given to them. This was followed by a classroom discussion. Students also learnt the difference between Public and Private Places through a sorting out engagement. They inquired into the need for Public places through a mind map. They also illustrated various Public places in their notebooks. Students explored the signs and symbols seen in public places through Flash cards. Student planned their own city and decided on all the important public places they would want in their city. This was followed by creating a model of the city using paper cut outs. The students have revisited alphabets and phonograms in the English classes through different classroom engagements. Tuning into Nouns was done through a nature walk, wherein students made a list of things seen around them. They then categorised them into four broad headings – persons, places, animals and things. This was followed by a classroom discussion on Nouns. In their Math classes students engaged themselves into various activities such as Number Bingo, Number recognition, Quantity association and many more interesting activities using manipulatives. Students then moved to the concept of Place value. Understanding the concept of place value was done through bundling and grouping, using golden bead material. Students used materials like golden beads, abacus and blocks to strengthen their understanding of place value. In their ICT classes students were introduced to PicCollage, an ipad app to create a digital collage . They created a collage of images that documented their learning process and led to a colourful stimulation for reflection on their favourite Olympians. In their Hindi classes students discussed essential agreements and learner profiles through the stories 'Imaandaar lakadhara' and 'karnee ka phal'. They enjoyed a video related to 'swachcha bharat abhiyaan' and drew pictures of objects seen in the video and wrote the first letter of the word also. They listened to the story 'Swachchta' and wrote words related to the video. Students revised 'swar' (vowels) through match the following.
